How Do You Celebrate Youth?

The United States celebrates International Youth Day on August 12th this year. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the potential of bringing peace and change to the world. Our youth are surrounded by technology, yet many struggle with basic skills in reading, comprehension, and connecting the purpose of academic demands with their everyday life. Many are assigned a Chromebook or laptop computer to provide a digital pathway to coursework, then find so many distractions in what they can access which oftentimes isn’t available in their home. How are communities supporting youth within the school walls or looking to volunteer with a student struggling with understanding the curriculum to meet their learning style.

The youth of today, especially in metropolitan areas of the U.S., don’t always envision school and education as the pathway to equip them with the skills they need to overcome poverty and earn a sustainable income. So much has changed in the last 20 years! It seems ordinary people, of all ages, struggle with the complexities of our modern world. What better time than NOW to commit to becoming “the change?”  Here’s our 2024 Challenge: Ask What Your Community School/Rec Center Needs!

  1. Think of something you can contribute to your local public school, or rec center:

  1. From an individual perspective it can be as simple as school supplies, hygiene items (many students lack these), gift cards for high school and middle schoolers (coffee shop, restaurant)
  2. From a small business perspective, or professional service organization, think about offering your expertise in an area of coursework (be a guest speaker, donate equipment, offer a special activity)
  3. From a corporate perspective, what can you offer, or budget for, to align with core educational goals or STEM programming?
  4. Special needs families and organizations, has your child outgrown some of the tools as they get older? Are you upgrading an existing space, and replacing a “sensory space” have you considered donating to a public school or rec area to see if they could use what you have? These are just a few ideas; now it’s up to you to make a difference.

At Purposeful Concepts, LLC, we look at youth as the canvas upon which the masterpiece of tomorrow is painted.   Join Us in being the positive change in a young person’s life!
